Kicking off the semester with the CRRC Welcome Social!

On Friday, September 26, we hosted our annual welcome social at Cold Regions Research Centre’s Ice House (165 Albert Street, Waterloo, ON). We had an excellent turn out, with over 25 students in attendance and many new faces we were excited to welcome.

Four CRRC graduate student members spoke about their experiences at Laurier. Amber Butson-White, a PhD student in the Department of Geography, kicked off the speaker series by discussing how to navigate life as a graduate student and wrapped up her talk with the lessons she has learned so far. Andy Sekoh, an MSc student in the Department of Geography, presented the various opportunities Laurier has offered him as well as his journey as an international student. Mackenzie Mihorean, an MSc student in the Integrative Biology program, focused on showcasing her field work experiences, which were all guided by her motto of “saying yes to everything!” Emilie Knighton, a PhD student in the Biological and Chemical Sciences program, concluded the speaker series by emphasizing the importance of a work-life balance.

This was an excellent first networking event of the term, and we’re excited for what’s ahead! Stay tuned for more events coming soon!
